End of Summer Pool Party & BBQ

When summer is officially winding down and back to school commercials are on TV, and advertisements for new book bags and school supply specials cover the pages of the Sunday paper, it's time to celebrate! Before you know it, it will be time for picking pumpkins and drinking cider. Before summer slips away, celebrate the season’s end with a pool party & BBQ.

The key to your end of summer pool party is to include classic summertime food, activities, and pastimes. Here are a few end of summer party ideas to get you started:

  1. To get started, send free end of Back to School party invitations to your event. On your invitations let guests know to bring their bathing suit and favorite swim toy so everyone can partiipate in some late summer fun!

  2. Play a pick-up game of any sport: football, soccer, etc. This will ensure that people stay outside and enjoy the summertime weather. You could even organize a scavenger hunt in your backyard!

  3. If you have any friends who play instruments, such as the guitar, ask them to bring their instruments along. If not, consider hiring a local musician to come and play for your group. Concerts and sing-a-longs are typical summertime activities, and people will be sure to join in on the fun!

  4. Play a water sport, after all, nothing says summer like “Splash!” Heat up the pool, set up a water slide, make water balloons, or just turn on the sprinkler. Kids and adults alike are sure to have a great time.

  5. Once, it gets dark out, set up a campfire, complete with summer camp favorite: s’mores! This delectable treat is made from a toasted marshmallow and block of chocolate sandwiched between two graham cracker halves.

  6. Ask each guest to bring a photo that represents their summer. Set up a table with some construction paper, glue sticks, and markers. During the party, invite guests to make pages for their photos. They can include descriptions of their photo, share a favorite memory, or write a sentence about their excitement for the coming year. Ask them to leave the finished pages out to share with everyone else in attendance. You can even punch holes in the sides and bind them together with ribbon to create a summer scrapbook of memories.

  7. Don't forget the sunscreen! Just because it's late in the season doesn't mean you can skimp on sunscreen.

At this end of summer pool party, make sure to take in all that summer has to offer. Listen closely to the evening summer sounds like crickets and tree frogs, as they will soon by replaced by the quiet of fall and winter nights.
