Halloween Drinks with Dry Ice
Add some bone-chilling spunk to your party and make Halloween drinks with dry ice! Transform your cocktails and punches into Halloween brews and potions for guests. Made of compressed carbon dioxide gas, dry ice is harmful to handle and breathe in for extended periods of time. When using dry ice for Halloween, handle it with tongs or heavy rubber gloves to avoid freezer burn or frostbite on your skin. Keep the dry ice in a well-ventilated area and be sure not to breathe in too much of the gas. Do not drink the dry ice, unless it is specifically food grade dry ice and in very small pieces.
Reserve your dry ice in advance of Halloween. Purchase it only hours before your party to avoid evaporation and don't display the dry ice until guests are present and ready for their Halloween dry ice drinks. The end-result that the dry ice will produce is worth all the planning and effort. Here are some Halloween punch recipes with dry ice to try this Halloween:
- Witch’s Brew: Make a delicious witch’s brew for guests and incorporate dry ice for the Halloween party. Purchase a large cauldron at your local party supply store and a smaller punchbowl to fit inside of the cauldron. Fill a large saucepan with one quart of hot water. Dissolve two (three ounce) packages of lime gelatin mix and allow it to cool. Once cool, pour the mixture into the smaller punchbowl. Add 46 ounces of pineapple juice, 12 ounces of frozen orange juice concentrate (thawed), two cups of white sugar and four and a half cups of cold water. Add two liters of ginger ale to the witch’s brew at the beginning of the party. At the start of the party, place the dry ice in the large cauldron, then put the smaller punchbowl with the witch’s brew over it. Watch the fog escape from the crevice between the cauldron and punchbowl.
- Vampire Blood: Make a sweet non-alcoholic punch for the whole group to enjoy! Combine one can of Hawaiian punch, one liter of ginger ale and even some sherbert (half gallon) for a special treat. Fill up cups with the Vampire Blood and place them on a table for guests. Place pieces of dry ice under the table to create a smoky effect. Place a child’s safety gate around the table if little ones plan to attend the party.
You can also use dry ice to create additional Halloween decorations throughout the party. Make a spooky Halloween scene such as a cemetery, pumpkin patch or cave with bats and use dry ice as a prop! For another idea, place vampires or mummies in coffins and put dry ice in the coffins.
