Planning a 4th Birthday Party

A 4th birthday party is a big deal for your child and most will want a party with friends! With a bunch of young kids running around, you may want to ask another parent to help out during the party to help provide additional supervision. Here are some great 4th birthday party ideas to get you started:

  • Invitations: Send out the 4th birthday party invitations to your child’s friends and parents a few weeks before the party. Be sure to include any important details that the parents should know about like when to RSVP and directions to the party location.
  • Themes: There are many excellent theme ideas that would be perfect for a four year old’s birthday party. Perfect 4th birthday party ideas for girls are: butterflies, fairies, princesses, Barbie and ballerinas. If your daughter has a favorite color like pink or purple, try incorporating the colors into the overall theme. If you are planning your son’s party and need 4th birthday party ideas for boys, some great themes are Thomas the Tank, superheroes, pirates, animals or robots.

  • Games: An essential 4th birthday idea is to plan some games for the kids to play at the party. Keep in mind that the games should be fairly short so everyone stays engaged.
    • Dance Freeze: This silly game is a great 4th birthday idea to break the ice and will kick the good times off. Start by playing popular kid-friendly music and have the kids dance to it. Tell them that when the music stops, they must freeze in whatever position that they are in. At the end of the game everyone will win a party favor or prize for their silly dance moves.
    • Limbo: If you are looking for a classic 4th birthday party idea for the party, limbo is a great choice! Have two older adults hold a pole at about the child’s height. Turn on some music and have each child limbo their way under the pole. After each round lower the pole an inch or two. Any kid who touches the pole is out of the game. Keep playing the game until there is one lucky limbo winner remaining!
    • Pass the Water Balloon: Fill up a bunch of balloons with water and arrange the kids in two lines with several feet between them. Give one side of kids a balloon and let them toss it back and forth, increasing the space between them the longer they can throw without breaking it.

Turning four is a day to remember, so take lots of pictures, have the guests bring a book as a present with a personal note and enjoy every minute of it!
